An Advisor Log
When I started advising, I discovered a data rich environment. Students coming and going, all with different reasons and concerns. Data everywhere I looked. So I quickly created a spreadsheet (what else?) to capture the data. Over a month or two I refined the spreadsheet to make it more effective. After I saw a student I would spend a minute updating my spreadsheet before seeing the next student. Over time the types of students I was advising came into focus. Here are some screen shots of the data. Click on the pictures to enlarge them.
The below screen enabled me to enter data quickly and to standardize the data for reporting purposes.
At certain times of the year I saw quite a few University of Arizona students.
And sometimes I had to refer students to someone else.
Does your school capture statistics like this? What do they use? How useful are the statistics? Are decisions and changes made based upon the data?
