About this Website

This is a free website for the benefit of advisors everywhere. To read about the purpose of this web site, click here. The design of this website is intended to be clean and simple to highlight the information without distraction.

I had two reasons for creating this web site: 1) To showcase my contributions to the field of academic advising, and 2) to learn how to set up a commercial website from scratch. I had to learn how to buy a domain name, select a hosting company, create the website structure, enable membership, create an online store, sign up for a business PayPal account, create an affiliate program, and join a couple of affiliate programs.

About David A. Freitag...

Welcome to my website. I hope you enjoy reading about Academic Advising and the small contributions I have made to the field. To give you an idea of who I am, I have prepared a career and a personal narrative. I have also included a more traditional resume’ along with my Personal Philosophy of Leadership. Enjoy!

Here’s a summary in case you are pressed for time…
Picture
A geek before geekiness was cool. Chess club. Married to Andrea since 1983. Software programmer, analyst, project manager, director. Teaching assistant, advisor, MS in Academic Advising and back to IT. Volunteer. Little League coach. Marathon in 2:56:41. Chess rating 2146. Cycles centuries. Golfer. Camper. Hiker. Scuba diver, body boarder. INTJ. Reader. Writer. Creative. A hard worker. A little Aspergery. Loyal to his friends. Loyal to his team. And as much as I’d like to be ‘bad-boy’ type because it seems so much more exciting, I remain the nice guy next door (deep sigh).
Yep. That’s me.

“Developmental counseling or advising is concerned not only with a specific personal or vocational decision but also with facilitating the student's rational processes, environmental and interpersonal interactions, behavioral awareness, and problem-solving, decision-making, and evaluation skills.” – Crookston, 1972

“Academic advising is the only structured service on the campus in which all students have the opportunity for on-going, one-to-one contact with a concerned representative of the institution.” - W. R. Hably
