Welcome!

Welcome to the Good Advice website, a modest resource for new and experienced Academic Advisors, advising administrators, and anyone interested in academic advising. I intend to use this website to present some information about academic advising in ways you may not have seen before. It is also intended to be a showcase for the work I’ve done in the field of Academic Advising and in earning a Masters of Science degree in Academic Advising from Kansas State University.

Who should be interested in all this?
  • New advisors will enjoy having someone to sort through all the information and present it to them in an easy to follow format.
  • Experienced advisors may find the informational diagrams and quizzes useful in refreshing their knowledge of the field of academic advising.
  • Administrators of academic advisors may find the articles I’ve written as well as the software I have created useful in assessing their advising programs.
  • Advisors thinking about enrolling in the Masters or certificate programs in Academic Advising at Kansas State University.

I hope you find the information useful in your advising practice!

“Developmental counseling or advising is concerned not only with a specific personal or vocational decision but also with facilitating the student's rational processes, environmental and interpersonal interactions, behavioral awareness, and problem-solving, decision-making, and evaluation skills.” – Crookston, 1972

“Academic advising is the only structured service on the campus in which all students have the opportunity for on-going, one-to-one contact with a concerned representative of the institution.” - W. R. Hably
